Dover Street Market is commemorating 40 years of New Balance’s production in the U.K by honouring the small town of Flimby, which thanks to New Balance’s main factory, has become the lifeblood of the seaside community. The 991 was one of New Balance’s formative ‘Made in the U.K’ sneakers and has since become known world-over, seeing recent collaborations with Stray Rats, Slam Jam and an upcoming release with Aimé Leon Dore.

Flimby is situated in the North of England’s Cumbrain County, it’s a relatively unexceptional town - besides a huge New Balance factory that has created over two-hundred job opportunities, resulting in a highly efficient, yet carefully processed production line, that churns out roughly 28,000 pairs of shoes on a weekly basis.
The celebratory silhouette arrives in a muted grey and gum palette, using premium nubuck fabrications that feature ‘DSM’ branding to the tongue, heel tab and insole. As ever with New Balance, it’s a clean and simple take that perfectly encapsulates the often grey coastline that is home to the Flimby factory, and the 991.
Available worldwide, look for the drop on April 14th, from Dover Street Market’s online and physical stores.
