Cult streetwear firm WTAPS has played host to two of the most sought after New Balance collaborations ever to release, previously taking on the 992 and 990v2, now aiming to go three for three with a greyscale take on the 990v6.
Anyone who’s owned a pair of New Balance’s sixth generation 990 model can attest to the insane comfort provided by the fuelcell midsole technology and when paired with Teddy Santis’ magic touch or Action Bronson’s vibrant collaborations, it’s hard to argue that the 990v6 isn’t already one of best New Balance MADE models to ever release - despite only being in circulation for less than a year.
The aforementioned Action Bronson partnership confirmed the v6’s desirability outside of hardcore New Balance aficionados, so it’s only right that another hall of fame collaborator sets its touch upon the design.
WTAPS has decided to adhere to a pillar of New Balance DNA by painting the v6’s pig suede and mesh construction in various shades of drab grey, topping things off with a stand-out heel panel that boldly reads “U.S.A”, as a homage to the shoe’s country of origin and WTAPS’ love for old school American military styles.
