Sacai has returned with a new Carhartt WIP collaboration for Fall Winter 2025, exhibiting another “work in progress” example of workwear identity refined to its highest form.
Chitose Abe has been applying her transformative touch to Carhartt staples for two years on the trot, debuting in January 2023 with a first-of-its-kind collection that immediately resonated with the crossover streetwear and high-fashion community for its effortless presentation of traditional, tough-wearing garb like we’d never seen before.
Subverted functional gear remains at the core of Sacai’s latest FW25 offering, involving the contemporary “Work in Progress” arm of Carhartt to yield a collaboration that mixes iconic Americana cuts with seasonally-appropriate detailing and military influence, homogeneously presented in a palette of deep green and duck brown, mixed with softer beige and stark black — all subtly washed to achieve a soft, worn-in appearance.
As ever, Abe and the Sacai design team have worked from the ground up, starting with base Carhartt staples such as chore and Active Jackets, then adding “little bit of spice” through military-inspired details and 2-in-1 constructions that materialise in the form of down-filled linings and visible reinforcements.
The lineup is punctuated by moto-inspired leather jackets and standout genre-bending pieces featuring chunky knitted panels and bellowed pocket designs. The ubiquitous double-knee trouser also makes an appearance, bearing integrated belts that nod to the style’s secondary origin as the go-to choice for outdoor enthusiasts of the 60s and 70s.
The “essential” pieces from past releases, such as tees, sweats, and low-key accessories also return, designed to suit the calculatedly oversized and boxy design language of mainline Sacai, proudly finished with the special edition black-on-silver wave badge.
The latest Sacai x Carhartt WIP collection releases globally via both brand’s websites and select retailers starting Friday, October 3rd.
