Never strangers to a bit of nostalgia, Palace Skateboards team up with THE Gap for a collaborative collection this week, combining the no-fuss wearability of the American heritage brand with signature Palace motifs.

A constant in the fashion world since the 70’s, Gap have worked with but a select group of worthy companions in recent years including Dapper Dan, Sean Wotherspoon, Kanye West and now the UK’s premier skate team Palace Skateboards.

The 55 piece Palace x GAP collection merges Gap’s iconic cuts with Palace’s mastery on the logo front, remixing hallmarks from each brand across Varsity Jackets, Oxford and Rugby Shirts, Track Suits, Cargo Pants, Tees and Hoodies, plus three exclusive Skate Decks and a limited-edition ‘Jeremy Duck’ Plush Toy.

As if working with such a legend of American culture wasn’t enough, the partnership also marks Palace’s first foray into kid’s-wear, with key pieces from the collection made available in sizes suitable for the foundation grade of the PWBC.

Commenting on the collaboration, Mark Breitbard, President and CEO of Gap said:

"Palace is playing by their own rules and we are inspired by their craft. This partnership reflects style and skate culture of the moment, and we are excited for customers to experience this unique expression of Gap.”

Setting the stage for the 90’s incarnate collection, Palace and GAP tapped photographer Jim Goldberg and director Will Robson-Scott to capture the intersection where music, fashion, and culture meet, resulting in a short tale that showcases the clothing worn as it was originally intended.

The original film follows a day in the life of young skaters as they explore iconic San Francisco landmarks like St. Mary’s Square, St. Francis Fountain, and the Golden Gate Bridge, encountering the legendary Karl Watson, Elissa Steamer and Tommy Guerrero along the way, in addition to supporting roles from Palace team skateboarders, 9-year-old pro skater Anna Shea and “Sporty Spice” herself, Melanie C.

“Collaborating with Gap made sense because a lot of us grew up skating in Gap gear in the 1990s,” said Palace founder Lev Tanju.

Continuing, Lev explained: “Gap was so cool to us then: clean, preppy, and all about the good American things like everyone being welcome. Gap put out so much iconic content in the era before it was called content and it’s been a real privilege for us to get to play in that space with them. And doing our first ever kids' collection with Gap — who make the best kids’ clothes — is really special for us.”
