Shortly after reuniting with Porter Yoshida on luxury nylon outerwear and carry-alls, Palace Skateboards is adding to its repertoire of cult Japanese collaborators by joining forces with BEAMS PLUS for the first time to honour the stalwart’s multi-disciplinary approach to modern menswear.

Established in Harajuku, BEAMS has provided American-inspired lifestyle goods since 1976, birthing various diffusion lines in its wake, including the starring BEAMS PLUS in 1999.

BEAMS PLUS draws inspiration from the golden age of Americana; reimagining ivy, work, sportswear and military attire through a Japanese lens, resulting in timeless wardrobe examples with an imbued aura of innovation.

BEAMS PLUS takes the principles from its north star prep & ivy influence by mixing suits with boots or parkas with ties and in this debut outing, BEAMS PLUS takes advantage of Palace’s vibrant disposition to edge just outside of its comfort zone.

A first for Palace Skateboards, BEAMS PLUS introduces a two-piece suit constructed from a lightweight, mottled grey, glen check wool fabric - intended to be styled with the plain blue or striped OCBD shirts.

More true prep staples include the cable knit vests and all-over embroidered trousers that are cut to an aggressively tapered, pleated fit, showing off pre-made repairs as a nod to the makeshift, home-brewed mindset of Japanese ametora style.

The final hits of ivy influence come in the form of chest-crested sweatshirts, striped and argyle socks, alongside the standout ‘fun-mix’ jacquard crewneck knits.

Moving onto the functional-leaning gear present in the collection, we’re treated to flannel check shirts that are overlayed with a camouflage pattern, with a similar theory being explored on the translucent, ripstop coach jacket that boasts a plush camo fleece lining and BEAMS PLUS Tri-Ferg branding (matching bucket hat also available).

Another branding iteration uses retro-inspired graphic work as the base for the Palace x BEAMS PLUS ‘Rising Sun Tri-Ferg’ patch, seen here on the Expedition Down Puffer Jacket, available in orange and blue with contrast linings. The same graphic also appears on a duo of skate decks.

Finally, Palace x BEAMS PLUS have put together outerwear and headgear reminiscent of military design, materialised on the ‘brush-stroke’ camo and midnight navy parkas and over-trousers that feature enlarged-button detailing and taped seam constructions. Completing the matching two-piece, the same palettes feature on convertible caps that come with removable, micro-fleece inner linings.

Once again directed by Stuart Hammond, Palace’s latest video campaign spotlights its debut BEAMS PLUS collaboration in the streets of Harajuku, Tokyo, featuring familiar faces from the Palace team, alongside the iconic Bez of the Happy Mondays and BEAMS PLUS director Hideki 'Harry' Mizobata, who are captured as they rehearse, before performing in a suave Japanese jazz club.

Joining the BEAMS collection are highly anticipated pieces from the season including the embroidered Pasta Jacket and matching Palello 6 Panel cap inspired by Italian foodstuffs.
