Since 2004, an annual collaborative project between Nike and the OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon has delivered reoccurring collections to the feet of sneaker fanatics far and wide. Known as the Doernbecher Freestyle program, the initiative allows several hospital patients the opportunity to design their own pair of kicks, later being sold to the public.

After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program is back in full swing. The Swoosh has selected seven kids to bring their creativity to the masses. Catalina Vazquez, Zoe Taaffe, Cidni O’Brie, Maylee Phelps, David Phelps, Ayman Wamala and Michael Wilson have been tapped to decorate their very own silhouettes for Doernbecher's 17th collection.
This year, the partnership has delivered a new range of footwear splattered with creativity, imagination and tons of color. The pairs highlight the personal stories of the participants along with their interests and personalities.

Each child was partnered-up with their own Nike design team that guided them through the journey of creating their dream sneaker. Covered in their favorite sets of materials, vibrant hues and everything in between, the program has made the dreams of over 100 children a reality.

For its 17th edition, the visionary range includes styles such as the Nike SB Stefan Janoski, Dunk Low, Air Force 1, Nike Zoom Vapor Cage 4, Lebron 19, Blazer Mid '77 and the Air Jordan 5 Low.
