Known as one of the sneaker industry’s most revolutionary minds, Peter Moore has passed away at age 78. Over his time at Nike and Adidas, Moore gathered an impressive portfolio of quality creations. Officially joining Nike in 1983, he crafted industry-defining work, including the Air Jordan 1 that launched Michael Jordan’s shoe line in 1985. In the same year, he added the Nike Dunk to his list, marking another home run for the designer.
As the brand's first creative director, Moore played an instrumental role in creating impactful campaigns and logos, including the iconic Jordan Jumpman logo that decorates many silhouettes today.
Jordan Brand’s vice president Howard "H" White has released the following statement on his passing: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Peter Moore, an iconic designer, whose legacy will forever be connected to Jordan Brand, and the sneaker culture he helped to create," White said. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the Moore family during this time."
In 1987, Moore made a career pivot to Adidas alongside fellow Nike designer Rob Strasser. Here, the footwear pioneers designed the Adidas Equipment line in March 1991. Marking another successful venture, Moore designed the Adidas mountain logo that currently acts as the label's trademark branding before his departure in 1998.
"The Adidas family is saddened by the passing of our dear friend Peter Moore,” Adidas said in a statement. “Our hearts are with Peter’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Peter was a true legend and icon in our industry, and it is impossible to overstate the impact he has had on Adidas. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on forever," Adidas released in a statement.
The footwear industry has lost a true revolutionary, one that will never be forgotten. Peter Moore's impact will long live alongside his legacy as one of the most creative minds of his generation, transforming the world of kicks for decades to come. Rest in peace.
