In a recent update to their terms of service for U.S based shoppers, Nike has outlined its intent to combat resellers with a number of newly imposed tactics that will make it harder to flip a profit on sought after Nike products.

This comes merely hours after Nike’s South Korean HQ had explicitly banned the reselling of their products.

Both legislations outline harsher punishments for those who purchase Nike products with an intent to resell, such as banning accounts, charging restocking fees or even declining refunds. Reports also suggest the update vaguely mentions the “banning of purchases deemed to be fraudulent“, which is a clear indication of Nikes opposition to the use of bots - a popular method used by many unscrupulous flippers to acquire multiple quantities of the same item through the simple click of a button.

Will this stop reselling entirely? No. But it is a clear statement from the market’s largest shoe company that shows they are against resell culture, and will hopefully set a precedent for other firms to follow suit in the future.
