Complementing New Balance’s varied range of past collaborators, the Boston-founded running brand is circling back to its partnership with Prada’s prise subsidiary Miu Miu, introducing an update to its previous 530SL silhouette as a sacrificial lamb to Miu Miu’s luxury blade, reworking the schematics for the design, amplified by distressed detailing and high-end materials.

The partnership between New Balance and Miu Miu first debuted with two frayed denim takes on the iconic 574, crafted from cotton and boasting hefty price-tags, just shy of $1k thousand USD.
The following New Balance x Miu Miu releases would proceed with the motive of functional sneakers with a luxury twist, birthing four colourways of the 530SL.

Priced at $1,120 USD, the 530SL is a super-light, or streamlined take on the traditionally chunky New Balance 530 - a thick-soled performance runner that debuted in 1992. Besides implementing vintage-effect, full leather or suede uppers, the ”SL” iteration of the 530’s main switch-up comes via the thin rubber sole that’s inspired by flat-treaded womenswear styles typically favoured in the high-end circles frequented by Miu Miu.

A black leather iteration of the standard 530SL has all but sold out through pre-orders on Miu Miu’s e-commerce site, although thanks to early leaks, we already know what’s in-store next for the cross-sectional partnership.
Going full-tilt on today’s inclination towards back-less footwear styles, the next instalment of ”Miu Balance” will once again reconfigure the construction of the 530, resulting in a slip-on style that steps deep into mule territory. Sticking with the same colour schemes that earned previous releases “sold-out” status, the 530SL slip-on will be available in ‘blanched white’ leather and deep brown ‘cinnamon’ suede.

A release date for the New Balance x Miu Miu 530SL Mule is currently unknown.
