New Balance’s 550 has played an integral role in the brand’s recent rise, countless collaborations have laid the path for the shoe to enter the shelves of retailers worldwide with more generally accessible iterations, typically, to the dismay of many, just one pair at a time. French retailer Courir are looking to switch things up, by delivering an exclusive four-feature pack of the basketball silhouette, draped in colour palettes to suit any summer rotation.
Kicking things off with what could be seen as a patriotic nod, this “tricolore” iteration flashes reds on the 550 logo, “N” outline and heel strip, with a deep navy used on the lining and surrounding ankle collar. The rest of the silhouette is brilliantly white, with an offset of grey suede on the heel and toecap.
This makeup goes heavy on the coffee tones, like its siblings a white base allows for even the most toned down of accents to subtly pop. Mocha tabs and chocolate mesh work wonderfully on the shoe, especially when set against the perforated holes on the profile panels, which tie in to the darker colouring used on the shoe.
Grey is something New Balance have got down to a tee. No other brand can make a supposed “boring” colour quite so attractive. The shoe would go with anything, suit anyone. It’s grey, it’s New Balance - what more can we say?
Finally, the most pastel-pigmented pair of the bunch uses colour sparingly with great effect. Again, the white base makes a strong case as a contender for Nike’s Air Force 1, while blanched yellows burst on the “N” logo, mesh collar and heel tab.
