Where Maison Margiela previously focused on creating the most useless watch designs available, with 2010’s Extended Watch Bracelet and 2019’s Silver Watch Strap springing to mind, Margiela’s contemporary subdivision MM6 is going all in on functionality with its debut Timex collaboration.
Despite being around since 1997, it feels like MM6 has picked up serious traction in recent years, thanks to standout partnerships with Supreme and recurring releases with Salomon that breathed life into the sub-brand, offering a more affable path into the world of Margiela when compared with the various barriers of entry that come with Margiela’s luxury-leaning outputs.
MM6 x Timex brings about two different models. The T80 - one of Timex’s most recognisable designs, gets a fairly standard collaborative redux, showing the addition of MM6’s ‘number board’ logo printed on the 36mm case’s dial, also appearing on the inverse side and outer bracelet clasp. In terms of functionality, the T-80 still offers a chronograph, alarm, timer, month and date display functions, with Timex’s signature INDIGLO® backlight coming as standard.

Included with the watch is a secondary polished steel bracelet that can be attached to the watch or worn on its own - calling back to the aforementioned mainline Margiela style from 2019.
It wouldn’t be enough to just decorate a standard Timex timepiece with MM6 branding so in typical Margiela fashion, MM6 has decided to reconfigure the retro, synth-wave stylings of the T-80 into a miniature “ring-watch” designed to be worn on the finger.

Simply offering a standard time function, the ring is still very much a functioning time keeper and plays into Margiela’s exploration of how different items can be worn.

Available via both brands websites, the debut MM6 x Timex collaboration goes live on October 24th.

Retail for the watch is $200 USD, while the ring costs $180 USD.
