Following an earlier announcement from the Wall Street Journal, the camps of Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton have proudly confirmed Skateboard P’s appointment as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collections.

The announcement means Pharrell is only the second black American to oversee a European fashion brand, following the historic coalition between Louis Vuitton and Virgil Abloh in 2018.
At 49 years of age, Pharrell’s resume has transcended his breakout title of ’sole musician’, becoming a pop culture icon in his own right, through production, design and collaboration across the arts, fashion and even liquor business sectors.

Although he’s always been one of the flyest to do it, Pharrell’s formal introduction into the fashion world was instrumental in the mass popularisation of BAPE, linking up with Japanese icon Nigo in the process and later starting his own brand Billionaire Boys Club, which is still popular today, 18 years after its inception.
Billionaire Boys Club has always thrived in graphic-heavy wardrobe staples but Pharrell’s proclivity towards cool shit goes beyond tradition - he’s created a near million dollar, signature collab with watchmakers Richard Mille, holds an ongoing office at adidas, has co-designed Chanel’s SS ‘19 collection and even worked directly with Louis Vuitton on the Millionaire Aviators collection back in the mid-2000’s.

Similar to Abloh, Pharrell has more than proven his worth up until this point and now he is officially helming Louis Vuitton’s menswear division, we can finally rest easy, knowing the brand is in capable hands for the future, under the guise of someone who respects both high-end and everyday fashion.

We can look forward to seeing Pharrell’s first collection with Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week later this year, in June.
