After dropping the iconic video for new song "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" this week, rapper Lil Nas X continues the hell-bound theme of the project with the release of his own "Satan Shoes" Air Max customs.

The shoe - which is not an official collaboration with Nike - is a custom run of 666 pairs featuring the body of the Nike Air Max 97.

Expanding on the themes of the MONTERO video, the shoe is adorned with Satan-themed iconography including a bronze pentagram at the lace lock and an air unit filled with "60cc ink and one drop of human blood".

Printed on the outside of the shoe is "Luke 10:18", referencing the bible verse which reads: "So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven". The MONTERO video saw Lil Nas X slide down a pole from heaven directly into the pits of hell in an apparent reference to Satan's origins.

The custom shoe is created in collaboration with MSCHF who have been responsible for a number of "absurd, cynical, and viral" projects in the past. The much-discussed drop of human blood added to the red fluid in the shoe's Air unit allegedly comes "courtesy of the MSCHF team", says founding team member Daniel Greenberg.

The shoes release via their own store satan.shoes from 11am Monday 29th March.
