Joe Freshgoods Kicks Off the New Balance 992 Revival with “Aged Well” Collaboration

With the New Balance 992 poised to make a grand comeback in 2025, the Bostonian sportswear brand is tapping one of its top collaborators to roll out the red carpet for an icon of homegrown-heritage footwear design.

The upcoming collaboration is a full circle moment for Chicago-native Joe Freshgoods, who started his run with New Balance back in 2020 by working on a highly limited 992 project dubbed “No Emotions are Emotions” that opened New Balance fans’ eyes to the designer’s ability to weave storytelling through design.

Five years on and nearly fifteen releases later, Joe Freshgoods is returning to work on the silhouette that earned his cult status amongst sneaker enjoyers, by delivering an “Aged Well” take on the New Balance 992.

Clearly referencing his veteran ranking as one of New Balance’s most prized collaborators, the “Aged Well” title also materialised through the washed, muted tones that adorn the mesh, suede and leather uppers.

After first appearing via grainy leaked imagery, Mr. Freshgoods has since taken to Instagram to officially unveil the collaboration, captioning the post:

"AGED WELL" JFG NEW BALANCE 992 - 5 YEARS, 10 PROJECTS, 20 SHOES. BROKE RECORDS EACH YEAR, UGLY LEAKED PICS, STOLEN PAIRS, NEW ROLE AT THE COMPANY. WHAT A RIDE. THE BEST 5 YEAR RUN EVER.

The bones of New Balance’s 992 are left untouched, aside from the “JFG” branded heel counters that replace the design’s usual, patriotic signage.

The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 992 “Aged Well” will release on February 21st via the New Balance website. Expected retail price is $220 USD.
