As the Supreme Fall Winter 2023 season rolls on, this week's drop offers a new selection of standout outerwear plus a new collaborative collection featuring artwork from Turner Prize-winning British artist Mark Leckey.
Inspired by cultural movements from his UK upbringing, Leckey draws visual references from football casuals, the British nightlife scene and everything inbetween, notably chronicled in his 1999 video essay Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore which partially serves as visual inspiration for this collection with Supreme.
Leckey's nostalgic multimedia pieces explore the collective British experience of youth, class, public space, popular media and technology throughout the latter half of the 20th century, a notion encapsulated through the title of short film "Dream English Kid 1964-1999 AD".
Speaking on the role that fashion and clothing can play in our memories and sense of identity, Leckey refutes the notion that style and fashion movements should be dismissed as something "trite and throwaway", stating the belief that sharing in these cultural trends can become "something totemic, and powerful, and life-affirming".
The Mark Leckey for Supreme collection draws imagery from a number of the artist's film works including Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, Dream English Kid, 1964–1999 AD, and GreenScreenRefrigeratorAction.
