Nike SB’s release slate for 2023 is shaping up nicely. Rumours are already circulating that collabs with Carhartt and the Powerpuff Girls are on their way and to top it off, we now have a concrete release date for the Crenshaw Skate Club x Nike SB Dunk Low.
As with any Nike SB collab - each shoe tells a story and the latest collaboration with L.A’ s own skate collective is no different. Crenshaw Skate Club was founded in 2017 by one Tobias McIntosh with the goal of bringing inner city youths together in the name of skateboarding - providing a platform for escapism and camaraderie, keeping the crew on the streets in the safest way possible.

The club soon blossomed into a fully bloomed brand that are known for comical graphics, empowering messages and a handful of collabs with Lacoste, BBC Ice Cream and the Jordan brand. After passing the initial gauntlet of designing a one off Jordan 36 Low, it’s only fair that the Crenshaw crew is blessed with the opportunity to put their spin on Nike SB’s premier product.
CSC’s Dunk takes inspiration from a landmark of McIntosh’s neighbourhood - the ‘Crenshaw Square’ sign that was originally painted in white and as time passed, fell victim to the elements, revealing a greenish patina that inspires the minty panels and pre-distressed detailing found on the overlays.
More references to Crenshaw’s home base appear on the inner tag and outsoles, where playful graphics can be found, that Tobias cited as a tip of the hat to a local daycare centres and the children that he hopes to inspire in his beloved borough.

Final touches of baby blue adorn the swoosh, backtab and outsole, with more splashes of colour on the three lace options, giving the wearer a choice of red, blue or yellow.
