Rei Kawakubo is famous for many things, most notably being the founder of Comme des Garçons and its many offshoots, the fashion magnate has also mentored the likes of Jacquemus and Junya Watanabe in addition to co-founding a little old shop known as Dover Street Market.

While DSM London has been going strong since 2004, it wasn’t until 2012 that Rei Kawakubo opened a storefront in her home country of Japan. Located in the metropolitan district of Ginza, the first eastern DSM outpost acted as a hub of fashion zeitgeist, stocking everything from Gucci to Brain Dead, high fashion to street style - the shopping experience, not just at DSM Ginza, but at any one of their worldwide locations is unrivalled.

Of course, it would be just plain wrong if DSM were to celebrate the ten year anniversary of their first Japanese store by blowing out a few candles on a CDG x Nike Air Max Sunder shaped cake, so instead, the retailer has enlisted some rather big names to design a series of t-shirts, alongside an archive sale of Virgil Abloh designed Louis Vuitton items, special edition shoes, jewellery and more.
Chrome Hearts, Stüssy, Gucci, J.W Anderson and Prada are just a few of 16 respected maisons to be setting their unique touch to a simple black and white tee, which has been given a special make-over in the style of each brand. Before you get your hopes up, it’s worth noting the tees are priced between $150 and $1600 dollars (approximately), and will likely only be available at DSM Ginza.
Besides quality jerseys, commemorative chains inspired by archival CDG designs are being released, with paint-dipped PHILEO shoes and a three way collaboration between Dickies and Our Legacy also playing a part in the celebrations.
Fellow Japanese Institute, Porter Yoshida have also developed a selection of multi pocketed, warped holdalls in light of the festivities, which are set to kick off tomorrow, on October 29th, both in-store and online at Dover Street Market Ginza.
