Despite accomplishing so much across their respective careers, Stone Island and Dior’s maiden collaboration is a huge milestone for both brands.

Twenty years ago, Stone Island was purely reserved for Football hooliganism, while Dior was at the peak of its powers in the high fashion world and thanks the advent of social media and the importance of brand synergy, we’re bearing witness to a crossing of boundaries between ready-to-wear and true luxury.

After being unveiled in early May, Stone Island x Dior has finally released to the public and it proves that such esteemed collaborations don’t come cheap.

The collection builds on Stone Island’s functional background, with Dior’s links to the finest craftsmen and women acting as the imperative garnish to military inspired outerwear, with role reversal taking place on footwear and accessories.

The Lambskin Field Jacket seamlessly blends tropes of tailoring with the functional-leaning input of Stone Island. The jacket’s pockets come with hidden press studs that match the interworked elbow pads, where a unique fastening system at the cuffs calls to archival Stone Island examples.

The stacked co-branding falls on the left pocket, showing the special white-on-black compass badge beneath an embossed Dior stamp.

The military motive extends to a subtly stonewashed cotton field jacket that improves on the classic four-pocket makeup with intricate leather-work placed on the lower flap pockets, elbows and collar straps.

Heavy Dior-isms come to life on the series of accessories and jewellery items, joined by the various circular leather trunks that take on a magnified version of Stone Island’s compass rose.

The accessory is produced alongside the colour experts of Maison Sennelier, who’ve supplied and accompanied some of history’s greatest artists, including Picasso, Cézanne and Delaunay.

According to the brands, the trunk represents “a generational project, featuring many hours of work that encompasses the idea of traditional leather goods, new savoir-faire and contemporary high functionality - all that defines Dior men today.”

It wouldn’t be a modern Dior release without the inclusion of its popular Saddle Bag and in keeping with the engineered design approach, the luxury house applies the Oblique pattern to a “technical fabric”, with smooth calfskin used on the straps. The bag is available in yellow and blue, with each colourway limited to just 88 numbered editions, boasting a retail price of $4,000 USD.

A closer look at the shoes featured in the collection highlights specially-dyed B30 and b57 styles constructed from technical mesh and cotton. Standard co-branded tees, caps and sweatshirts are also available.
