New Balance’s 2002r has played host to many collaborations over the past 12 months, tapping everyone from Ganni to Joe Freshgoods, producing sought-after colourways that only further boost the stock of the generally released iterations, reinforcing the hype with each post on the gram.

The 2002r’s latest GR pack looks to the prototypical hiking boot as inspiration for the silhouette, with three outdoor-ready versions that feature utilitarian additions such as metal lace eyelets and a reinforced toe cap that proudly brandishes its protective purpose, through self-explanatory lettering. Two of the silhouettes are more traditionally trail-oriented in colour, opposing their lighter sibling.
The beige colourway uses a similar palette to that of the J. Crew exclusive 2002r, sporting a muted base with a purple “N” and contrasting flashes of pink throughout the midsole and mesh underlays.
This colourway is more comparable to the same boots your Dad’s been rocking on hikes since the 80s. A synthetic brown leather upper emboldened with a yellow heel tab and dark midsole allows for the metal eyelets to really shine amongst their muddy canvas.
The third and final member of the 2002r ramblers club is a triple black edition, a colourway that hasn’t been in the limelight since the surprisingly popular Protection Pack that first released in 2021.
