With the streetwear market being saturated by many one hit wonders, the Fairfaxian team over at Brain Dead are fast becoming a household name in the industry, setting themselves apart by dipping their esoteric graphics in various subcultures, through original partnerships with everyone from Carhartt WIP to Sergio Tachinni and The North Face.

As they assemble an avengers-tier lineup of guest work with solid leaders of industry, it was only a matter of time before another, more expansive collaboration with Vans cropped up. After previously working on sticker-bombed lows, Brain Dead are taking their latest opportunity to exhibit some masterful colour blocking, spread over the OG Half Cab LX and Lampin LX, the first two silhouettes to drop from the four part collection.

Both shoes are bursting with summer flavours, accentuated by the multi-coloured eyelets and mishmash of hues on the upper, combated by an edge of uniformity with contrasting white stitching throughout. The Lampin LX echoes the GOLFWANG x Vans collabs of old, though an aged midsole with Aztecy lettering plastered across the side, sat beneath blue quarter panels and green overlays. Rounding off the suede silhouette, a strip of black travels from the toe box to tongue, matching the shoe’s interior in colour.
The Half Cab is also colour blocked, although opting for a lighter blue set against a mustard yellow eyestay and purple toe box. In keeping with the Half Cab’s ‘born to be worn’ nature, a white canvas is used where cushioning is essential and the wear and tear on the sneaker can be proudly displayed.

The Half Cab and Lampin LX will be available on June 10th via Brain Dead’s physical locations, with an online drop following on June 14th. Stay tuned for more news on part two of the Brain Dead x Vans Vault collab, which is slated to drop at the beginning of July.
