Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance Revive the Rainier Boot for FW22

Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance collaborations represent the best of sneaker partnerships, from materials to promotion and the story behind each release, ALD fixed New Balance’s are some of the best in the game. Even if you aren’t a dedicated collector, the numerous colourways of elevated 550s appeal to a wider market whilst still being (somewhat) accessible, where more niche silhouettes like the 991 and 1300 showcase what is truly possible when form meets function.

While all of their previous works have kept strictly within the confines of a traditional sneaker, Aimé Leon Dore are branching out for FW22, with an upcoming collab on a rugged hiking boot dubbed the “Rainier”, a style which hasn’t been in circulation for years and revives the true gorp style of gore-tex loaded ankle boots.

So far, two colourways of the boot have surfaced, with the first appearing in a cool grey and navy combination, spread over suede panels and a tough under-canvas, while leather padding lines the interior with further retro hiking details seen on the d-ring lace hooks and thick-toothed sole. Debossed New Balance branding to the medial panel completes the shoe, with ALD’s signature featuring on the tongue patch.

The second colourway arrives in brown, with a sneaky strip of teal surrounding the ankle and boot lining.

Although not officially announced, the Rainier has been seen in the hands of multiple friends and family members of Teddy Santis and Aimé Leon Dore, indicating a release is imminent.
