Martine Rose is pushing ahead with her mission of re-introducing the golden age of Nike football to the current generation of sportswear enjoyers, as the brands reveal a new collection for FW25 that is directly inspired by one of the most iconic kit designs of 1990s British football.
With plenty of contemporary projects in her back pocket, such as 2023’s sartorially-inclined apparel offering or the 2021 redesign of England’s Women’s team kit, Martine Rose is instead looking to the past as the muse for her latest Nike collaboration.
A full-circle moment for a lifelong supporter of “the Gunners”, Rose sheds light on one of Arsenal’s most iconic kit designs from the 1994-‘96 season. The fan-favourite strip features as the central inspiration for Rose’s very own vision for the “MRS Team” home, away and third kits, which comprise collared shirts and era-appropriate (short) shorts, each embellished with the Martine Rose squad badge and sponsor, replacing Arsenal’s ubiquitous “cannon” and the original “JVC” insignias that graced the shirts of legendary players such as Ian Wright and David Seaman.
The latest Martine Rose x Nike collab also involves extra-baggy hoodies and matching sweatpants that rival the boxy coziness of Nike’s latest restock of co-branded Stüssy sweats, offered in deep red and dark grey marl colours that call back to the single-swooshed examples that have remained a staple of British culture for the past thirty years.
Reinforcing the pre-internet theme, the brands have also come up with co-branded cross-body bags, and the standout Ski Parka that reissues an archival piece from Nike’s 90s ACG range, reformatted to align with the refined-athletic design ethos of the Martine Rose brand.
The Ski Parka is signed off with the same Nike x Martine Rose globe logo that appears on the accompanying jerseys’ and shorts’ jacquard patterns.
Martine’s take on the hood-classic Nike Shox R4 is also influenced by more traditional designs, remixing the odd-soled runner into a pointy-toed mule, crowned the “Shox MR4”.
The hodgepodge of high-heelage mixed with running shoe DNA is available in a fresh colourway of “Metallic Platinum” — consisting of a white leather base with carbon-esque tooling and a striking red swoosh placed at the forefoot section.
The latest Nike x Martine Rose collection will be available globally starting October 30 via the Martine Rose website and Nike SNKRS.
